These restaurants in York and Ryedale have been praised in a prestigious restaurant guide.

Now in its 28th edition, AA’s ‘The Restaurant Guide 2022’ provides food lovers with breakdowns of restaurants by county, including a detailed description of each destination, information on latest chef changes, opening times, sample menu prices and images of many of the featured locations.

Assessments of AA-inspected establishments are based on the experience of the Hotel and Restaurant inspectors on the occasion

The restaurants are then awarded 1-5 ‘rosettes’ depending on the inspectors assessment.

Best restaurants in York and surrounding areas 

Dean Court Hotel: One rosette for this restaurant, close to York Minster. "The modern British menu is wellbalanced and seasonal," the AA said. 

The Bow Room Restaurant at Grays Court: The AA awarded three rosettes to the Bow Room Restaurant, part of the historic Grays Court linking back to the 11th century. The menu features contemporary British dishes. 

Guy Fawkes Inn: Home to the gun-powder plotter himself, this one rosette rated restaurant on High Petergate serves a beautiful mix of classic and modern British dishes. More via Tripadvisor.

Skosh, Micklegate: "Skosh has made a big splash on the local and

The Star Inn The City: The AA awarded one rosette to this restaurant. It is found at Lendal Engine House with the AA noting its "stunning riverside setting". More via Tripadvisor.

The Hare: The AA raved about this three rosette rated "luxurious" restaurant. It comprises of a series of tasting menus and you choose from six or eight courses. The chef says this might take around three or four hours respectively, according to the AA. Dishes come with a suggested wine. More via Tripadvisor.

Lascelles, Escrick: Nestled in the Parsonage Country House Hotel, this 19th-century, former parsonage is set within six acres of gardens with most of the menu sourced with produce grown within a 20-mile radius. It has two Rosettes for fine dining like Navarin of Seaton Ross lamb and a Yorkshire curd tart. More via Tripadvisor.

The Black Swan, Helmsley: Perhaps after a walk to Riveaulx Abbey or Helmsley's Walled Garden, you can tuck into a meal at the The Black Swan. Parts of the building date back to the 15th-century with open fires setting the ambience for your two rosette rated dish. More via Tripadvisor.

Feversham Arms Hotel & Verbena Spa, Helmsley: The AA has given the Weathervane Restaurant in this hotel two rosettes. The AA says diners can expect "sophisticated cooking built on fine regional ingredients". More via Tripadvisor.

The Star Inn, Harome: This restaurant boasts two rosettes for its rustic pub dining experience and country cooking. The AA specifically mentions the grilled fillet of John Dory with Jerusalem artichoke purée, salsify, a lobster fritter, a poached egg yolk and celeriac ash.
