TWO men from outside North Yorkshire have been sent to jail for offences they committed in York.
Lewis Matthew Berkley was jailed for 48 weeks for offences committed in a nature reserve.
York magistrates told him the offences was so serious he had to be jailed because he had carried out a “deliberate attack on public servants carrying out public duties”.
The 22-year-old from Witton Crescent, Darlington, pleaded guilty to two charges of assaulting emergency workers who were police offices.
He also admitted racially aggravated words or behaviour towards one of the police officers.
In addition to the prison sentence, he was ordered to pay a £156 statutory surcharge.
The offences happened on June 28 in St Nicholas' Fields, Tang Hall.
Dale Austin Cunnah, 30, of Stamford Road, Chester, was jailed for four weeks.
He admitted burgling Bags of Desire in High Petergate, and stealing from Spar on Lowther Street, The Groves.
He was also ordered to pay a £128 statutory surcharge.
They appeared in separate hearings.
