A YORK nursing home has been shortlisted for a prestigious national award.

Fulford Nursing Home is in the running for management team of the year at the Caring UK Awards, which aims to recognise excellence and achievement within the care sector across the UK.

Business manager Elizabeth Hancock said everyone at the home was 'absolutely thrilled' to be shortlisted.

"The last 18 months have been the greatest challenge ever experienced for all providers of care and to be recognised for an award is humbling and is a recognition of the whole staff team, families, local system partners and all the local trades and businesses who support us," she said.

"There is no job more rewarding than working in social care and this is the icing on the cake whether we win or not. I would like to congratulate everyone who has been nominated."

An awards spokesperson said: “Never has there been a more appropriate time to recognise the amazing and selfless contribution that our carers make and how they have given so much to protect and care for their residents in the face of unprecedented challenges.”

The awards are organised by Script Events in conjunction with leading care industry magazine Caring UK, with support from headline sponsor Virgin Money.

In each category up to seven finalists have been selected and they will now go through to the next stage of the judging process.

The winners will be revealed at a glittering awards ceremony, hosted by Emmerdale actor Dean Andrews, at The Athena in Leicester on Thursday December 2.
