PEOPLE are being asked NOT to head to York's mass Covid vaccination centre today unless they have a pre-booked appointment - because of high demand.

Nimbuscare, which organises the complex at Askham Bar, said it was not accepting 'walk-ins,' apart from immunosuppressed patients requiring a third primary dose vaccination.

It tweeted: "URGENT NOTICE: We’re experiencing high demand so are asking everyone now to pre book their Covid vaccination.

"To book an appointment, book online or call 119."

The centre has been allowing walk-ins recently but one man tweeted yesterday that he drove ten miles there only to be turned away, with a two-hour queue of people waiting to be jabbed.
