NORTH Yorkshire Police are holding a by-election for the office of Police, Fire and Crime Commissioner.
It will be held on Thursday, November 25, if more than one candidate stands.
The election comes after the resignation of Phil Allott on Thursday, October 14, due to his comments regarding women’s safety after the murder of Sarah Everard by police officer Wayne Couzens.
He received a vote of no confidence passed by the North Yorkshire police, fire and crime panel.
It is the county’s police, fire and crime panel that have appointed an interim acting commissioner until the election date.
He later apologised for his comments.
Phil Allott, once a Conservative parliamentary candidate, secured the position in May 2021.
Commissioner elections are voted by which voters rank the candidates in order of preference.
