AN ALL-TIME classic show will fly into York next month with an “energetic” production of the Wizard of Oz.

The performance, put together by NE Musicals in York, will feature at The Joseph Rowntree Theatre.

Steve Tearle, chair of the NE theatre company, said: “This amazing story is full of heart, knowledge, courage and love for our families.

“With over 60 cast members, and the youngest being just six-years-old, this truly is a theatre event. Our company is made up of families, with mums and dads on stage and their children or parents chaperoning backstage.”

The well-known role of Dorothy will be played by both Libby Anderson and Scarlett Waugh, featuring on different days.

“They are both amazing in the role”, Steve Mr Tearle added.

The show will tell the renowned story of how Dorothy’s house is picked up by a tornado, before landing in the magical land of Oz with her dog, Toto. Along her journey, Dorothy meets exciting characters such as Glinda, played by Maia Stroud, the Wizard of Oz, played by YO1 afternoon host, Chris Marsden, The Wicked Witch of the West, played by Perri Ann Barley, The Scarecrow, played by Finley Butler, The Tin Man, played by Kristian Barley and The Cowardly Lion, played by Mr Tearle himself.

“Will Dorothy get to meet the wizard and get home? Come along and join us to find out. This is a singing and dancing production with amazing special effects from Adam Moore and his brilliant team at Tech247”, Steve added.

The show will feature at The Joseph Rowntree Theatre from November 23 - 27.
