Sue Gabbatiss, 61, is a childminder from Woodthorpe, York, and is a keen member of The Press Camera Club. Here in Behind The Lens, our new regular feature on Press Camera Club members, she tells us more about her passion and shares her favourite photos.

When and why did you take up photography?

I have always enjoyed photography. I enjoy being creative and love looking back on all our memories. I love having all our family occasions and places we've been captured forever in my pictures.

Why do you love taking pictures?

I love taking photos of family, holidays, nature and weekends out and about. There are so many lovely places nearby and it's so nice to look back at all the places we've been and things we've seen. It's a great fun hobby. I just enjoy capturing a moment or a view and of course our grandchildren too.

What equipment do you use?

I have a Panasonic Lumix Camera and a Samsung Mobile phone.

What is the favourite picture you have taken?

I have many favourite photos, one of which is of our grandson cuddling his new baby sister.

Where is your favourite place to take photos?

My favourite places are York and the surrounding villages, woods nature reserves and attractions, or any family holiday.

When and why did you join The Press Camera Club?

I joined the Camera Club because me and my family enjoy seeing my photos in The Press, and it's fun to share some with others. It's also nice to be in a local group with my daughter too.

If you could photograph anyone or any place who/what would it be and why?

I would love to go back to Australia to visit my brother because there are so many different photo opportunities there.

What advice would you give anyone who wants to get into photography?

Enjoy taking pictures, have fun and keep your camera or phone with you all the time. Start by taking photos that interest you, then try something new when you see an opportunity. Practise lots and always have your batteries charged!

Anything else you wish to tell us?

I love the friendly nature of the Camera Club. My daughter Sarah and I enjoy the monthly challenges and seeing other photos posted on here as well as our own. My mum enjoys seeing our pictures when they are published in The Press too.
