YORK'S Red Rebel group will join a silent pilgrimage by train to Glasgow ahead of the COP26 Summit.

In the run up to the COP26 Summit, Red Rebel Brigade groups across the UK will complete a silent, three-day pilgrimage by train, starting in Truro and finishing in Glasgow on the first day of the conference.

The Red Rebel Brigade is a theatrical, apolitical performance group that raises awareness of ecological and political crises through peaceful, silent processions. Countrywide, hundreds of Red Rebels sound the warning through art and movement. Group members wear red, representing the danger of the climate crisis and its impact on humanity.

Event organisers, Catherine Heinemeyer and Christina O’Neill, said: "Red Rebels will travel, silently and with purpose, along the veins of the country to the beating heart of COP26 in Glasgow.

"We will bring the message that it’s now CODE RED for humanity, for climate, and for nature. There is not a single moment more to waste, and policymakers who don’t come to the table ready to make sacrifices really will have blood on their hands.”

To witness and support the crucial discussions taking place at COP26, Red Rebel groups will stage haunting performances at each station along a planned route. Performances will share the message that we need to act now to halt serious natural disasters, global warming, and life-threatening pollution levels. Regional Red Rebel groups will silently process through each station and onto the train. Their actions will not disrupt other passengers. Each group will carry a local banner displaying the words CODE RED, showing the danger of inaction and sending a warning signal to decision makers and the public.

On Sunday October 31, Red Rebels from Bristol, Rugby, and Oxford will meet at Birmingham New Street, staging a silent vigil to mark the mid-point of the journey. Rebels from Birmingham, Leeds, York, and Wales will join together with Manchester Rebels at Manchester Piccadilly to perform a wordless but hopeful demonstration. York Red Rebels will carry out a performance at 1.45pm at York Station before boarding the train.

On Monday November 1, the final day of the journey, Rebels from Manchester, Preston and Carlisle will join the route, reaching Glasgow in the afternoon. A final banner will then be displayed at a high profile, public demonstration.
