PUPILS at one school turned beekeepers for the day as their classroom became a hive of activity.

Youngsters in Year 4 at St Lawrence's CE primary school spent time with local beekeeper Mrs H who brought all of her equipment in to show to the children, along with lots of pictures and videos of her tending to her bees.

Teacher Miss Horrocks said: "There was some fabulous discussion, and Year 4 were keen to show off what they have learned already carrying out a variety of activities: rolling candles out of sheets of beeswax; making - and eating- honey sandwiches using honey from Mrs H's own bees; creating a honeycomb structure out of straws and paper; and dressing up like beekeepers and tending to a bee-less hive.

"It was incredible to see how engaged the children were with Mrs H.

"Knowing that we're inspiring the next generation to make a difference is such a good feeling, and the bees will appreciate it too."
