THE number of Covid patients at York and Scarborough hospitals has risen again - reaching 62 today, the highest of the current wave of the pandemic.

The York and Scarborough Teaching Hospitals NHS Foundation Trust said three of the patients were in intensive care and a total of 2,679 Covid patients had now been discharged since the start of the pandemic.

That meant 36 patients had been discharged since last Friday, when the trust had discharged 2,643 and was treating 58 Covid inpatients.

The number of inpatients is still well below the peak of 242 at the height of the second wave in January.

The trust was unable to say how many of the current Covid inpatients had been vaccinated against Covid or were unvaccinated.

"It’s not data that we have readily available, as it is a patient’s Covid positive or negative status that determines where they are admitted," said a spokeswoman.
