CITY of York Council has reassured drivers and cyclists that it WILL have enough drivers to operate its gritting lorries this winter, following suggestions that the nationwide shortage of HGV drivers could spell disaster for salt-spreading services.

The Mirror quoted the Local Government Association as warning that some councils might find their gritting services affected in the same way that some have seen waste collection services impacted.

But a York council spokesperson said all was fine in the city, adding: “We’ve allocated drivers already, so no concerns.”
