Emergency services are currently dealing with an incident at York Hospital.

A car and a motorbike appear to have collided and the car has then crashed in to the main hospital building in Wigginton Road in York.

A cordon is in place to the right of the main hospital entrance and a car is being removed from the scene having gone through the wall of the pharmacy building leaving a large hole below a window.

A hospital spokesperson said the incident happened at about 9.30am today (October 13) and a car hit the wall of the pharmacy and laboratory block.

The driver of the car and two female hospital staff, who were in the building at the time of the impact, were all injured and are receiving treatment in the nearby A&E.

Michele Andrew, 58, from Heworth, has secondary breast cancer which has spread to her bones and attended the hospital this morning for blood tests before undergoing chemotherapy tomorrow.

She said: "The accident has stunned a lot of people who were at the hospital at the time.

"I hope everyone involved is ok.

"I was the last person to get a blood test and they had to suspend blood testing as they take place in the affected building.

The hospital spokesperson said advice remains that if you have an appointment to turn up as normal unless told otherwise by a member of staff and that there are no issues the interruption of chemotherapy services.

The hospital spokesperson said: "We evacuated the building affected immediately and we have tried and tested plans in place if there is a short term interruption to make sure hospital services can still run.

"We are looking at what we can do in the immediate aftermath and staff have been deployed to other wards.

"A couple of staff were injured, but hopefully not seriously and they were taken to A&E along with the person driving the car, who I believe was alone in the vehicle.

The police and fire service are on the scene.

"We have somebody coming out to access the damage to the building and they will let us know when it's safe to go back in.

"We don't anticipate the whole building is going to be out of action for a long period of time.

"There is nothing at all to suggest there was any mal-intent. Police will be looking in to the circumstances, but it looks like an accident."

A spokesman for North Yorkshire Police said: "Police were contacted at 9.34am this morning with a report of a collision between a car and a motorbike in the car park of  York Hospital.

"The car had then gone on to hit the wall of the pharmacy building.
