YOUNGSTERS at this York school are blowing their own trumpets - and with good reason.
Year 5 at Haxby Road Primary Academy are trumpeting the school’s success in becoming a Music Mark school. The award was made in recognition of the school’s commitment to providing high quality music education by the York Music Hub, part of the UK Association for Music Education which champions and supports access to music for all children and young people.
Ruth McCartney, who teaches music at the school and is music curriculum lead for Ebor Academy Trust, which runs the school.
She said: “Music at Haxby Road is thriving. There are brass lessons , choir is back, and every child receives at least one music lesson a week.”
The nomination was made in the same week as Ebor ran its third annual primary music conference, which supports teachers across York to be able to deliver a successful music curriculum. Ebor, which has its headquarters in York, has 24 schools in the city and, North and East Yorkshire.
