DIFFERENT generations at a care home in North Yorkshire were given the chance to appreciate each other's musical tastes during a karaoke night.

The Thistle Hill care home in Knaresborough organised the show as part of a celebration of ‘Musical Icons’ - where residents and colleagues came to perform and watch their counterparts showcase their party pieces and fancy dress outfits.

A spokesperson for the home said: "It is always wonderful to hold intergeneration events, as everyone learns a lot and sometimes new skills are picked up by both groups."

The afternoon saw a visit by one of the home's favourite singers, Rochelle Ayris, as she entertained the residents with the songs by classic musical icons including Frank Sinatra, Marilyn Monroe, Doris Day and The Beatles.

One of the residents, Isobel, said she was surprised at how "fabulous" her fellow residents were able to sing.

“Angela had a voice like an angel. It was certainly a talent she’s kept quiet", she added.

Thistle Hill care home is run by Barchester Healthcare, one of the UK’s largest care providers. The firm, which supports 11,000 residents across 200 homes for short breaks to long term stays, is committed to delivering personalised care across its care homes and hospitals.

A spokesperson for Barchester said: "Our teams of highly-qualified and attentive staff are passionate about independence, dignity and choice for all residents within their care.

"We celebrate life and make sure the people we support do too. We do this by treating everyone as individuals and always tailoring our services to meet their needs."

The Knaresborough care home provides residential care, nursing care and dementia care for 85 residents from respite care to long term stays.
