The October Finale at York Racecourse wasn’t the only major sporting event in York to feature horses this weekend.

The annual British Eventing horse trials returned to Askham Bryan college after a year missed due to Covid - bringing with them some of the top riders in the sport.

The two-day event featured dressage, show-jumping and cross-country,

The cross country course was designed by British Eventing’s technical adviser Adrian Ditcham, who has worked with the college since it first hosted the fixture in 2010 and who built the course for the cross country event at the London 2012 Olympics.

Jo Richards, the college’s event organiser, said: “When so many events on the circuit have had to cancel due to the year’s challenges, it was a real privilege to welcome back British Eventing and offer a wide range of competing classes.

“It feels like a bit of catch-up, and at the end of the day, we need to thank all our enthusiastic competitors and event sponsors whose support made the event’s return a great one.”

Askham Bryan College is the designated venue for British Eventing’s Northern Final, with the Southern Final hosted at Tweseldown Racecourse in Hampshire.
