MAYOR of Greater Manchester Andy Burnham has called for 'London-level' bus fares across the North, with a standard £1.55 fare for a single journey.
I believe this should be standard across the entire country.
I am always amazed by how far I can travel in London, so cheaply using an Oyster card. Any second bus journey made within an hour of the start of your first journey is free.
For Londoners aged over 60, all Transport for London services - buses, tubes, trains and trams - are free.
Compare this to the regions: it costs me almost £5 to travel ten minutes into town and back on the bus, and I have to wait until I am almost 67 for a free pass.
And don’t get me started on our astronomical train fares.
