A CHARITY shop has reopened at a new site in York.

Age UK opened its new shop in Fossgate on Saturday, October 2.

The charity shop sold its Walmgate shop in March, having outgrown the property.

Rosemary Suttill, of Age UK York, said: “A queue formed up well ahead of opening and we were soon busy saying hello and welcome to customers.

“My colleagues Linda and Janet managed the counter and I chatted and opened the display cabinets for coats and boots to be tried on - and they both managed to bag bargains for themselves, not wasting that chance!

“Our first customer bought a lovely coloured glass dish and then the counter was busy with all kinds of goodies kindly donated.”

The shop wasn’t quite ready on the day, as a display stand for the service leaflets and posters still needed to be mounted on the wall.

The services the charity offers include day clubs, looking after pets, and support after hospital stays.
