A YORK woman has set up a healthy eating workshop from her kitchen - in a bid to help people boost their wellbeing as we come through the pandemic.

Nutritional therapist and 'natural chef' Tracy Land, of Naburn, launched The Wellness Kitchen @ Home this year, offering a range of monthly workshops covering cookery demonstrations, and nutrition and healthy lifestyle advice.

Tracy, who has been practising nutritional therapy since 2006, said: “It is one of the many wonderful aspects of working as a nutritional therapist, seeing the profound transformative power of food and other lifestyle practices on an individual’s health and happiness.”

Tracy qualified from the renowned Institute for Optimum Nutrition in London, having previously had a 20-year career in the NHS.

She said she came to nutritional therapy from a long-held appreciation of the healing power of food.

Tracy set up the Wellness Kitchen to teach healthy food prep and living skills to small groups and began by running a series of workshops in York on gut health.

She said: "The idea emerged as we were starting to come out of lockdown." But she said there was as much a need now - as we come through the pandemic - to show people how to boost their health through their food choices.

She said: "There is as much a need to show people in a very practical way how to reconnect with health, through what they eat and how they approach other influential aspects of living such as connection with others, connection with nature, exercise, stress resilience and sleep.”

The Wellness Kitchen is running a series of monthly, health-themed workshops. The format for the workshops includes a look at what’s in season, nutritional properties, and roles, what to look for when buying it fresh and how to store and cook it. Tracy demonstrates a number of themed drinks and dishes which are shared by the group.

Tracy explains: “The workshops are hosted in small groups of eight to allow attendees to share ideas, experiences and practices that have helped make us more resilient and stronger in these changing times.”

The first two workshops sold out instantly, but The Wellness Kitchen has a year's programme of workshops planned and available to book. Topics include ‘Superskin’ – a workshop combining diet and lifestyle tips to optimise skin health at every life stage', ‘Hacks for a healthier and happier festive season’, ‘System Reset – how to help your body reboot and re-balance ready to make the most of the year ahead'.

Workshops cost £50 and run from noon to 2.30pm, and include tasters made with organic ingredients. Participants are given a theme-related recipe collection to use at home, a supplement and product sheet with a discount and a healthy goody bag to take away.
