A WATER park in North Yorkshire hopes to launch a brand-new twin zipline across one of its lakes in early 2022.

The new attraction at the North Yorkshire Water Park, based on the Dawnay Estates at Wykeham near Scarborough, will feature a 13-metre-high tower and 250m long ziplines built over the second largest lake on the site.

The new zipline, which has secured planning permission, will be close to where most of the park's watersports already take place, and will also feature two climbing walls adorning the tower, clad in Dawnay Estates timber, in line with the rest of the new hub buildings.

David Steel, chief executive of the Dawnay Estates, said: “This is another significant milestone for us at North Yorkshire Water Park, as we commence the building of another headline attraction.

“We have invested over £1 million into the business over the past year, and the zipline is a key part of our vision for the site, which has enjoyed huge popularity particularly this summer since the major expansion of facilities.

“As well as the zipline and our new climbing walls, we have also recently announced the opening of our new 251 Events Room, adding to our private functions and corporate offering. The new activities will be bookable on their own, or as part of an event or party.”

The zipline will be built by Technical Outdoor Solutions, a specialist in bespoke constructions which boasts a portfolio of successful projects with past clients including Parkdean Resorts and Morfa Bay.

North Yorkshire Water Park is open year-round.

The water park originally comprised of four specialist fishing lakes and a larger lake which is now dedicated to water sports. For many years, local water sports clubs and individuals have been sailing, windsurfing, model yacht racing and open water swimming at the destination.

North Yorkshire Water Park was launched in July 2017 with a new AquaPark, offering activities such as kayaking, stand-up paddle boarding, tandem kayaking and more, as well as other outdoor leisure facilities around the lake.

This year, the Dawnay Estate has substantially expanded the park providing new attractions such as wake boarding lines and the Café @ North Yorkshire Water Park.
