I cannot believe what I witnessed whilst on a No 12 bus recently.
At Askham Bar Tesco, the driver refused entry onto his bus to a young girl with disabilities. Clearly I saw the distress in her eyes because that would mean a very long wait for another 12 to arrive.
The driver explained that it was apparently ‘the rules’ when one wheelchair occupied the available space.
I also noticed a healthy young girl sitting on the disabled seat nearby. She could have easily moved and rearranged space for this unfortunate, wheelchair-bound, fragile young girl.
If only decent humanity was in charge rather than rules and ignorant uncaring attitudes towards the disabled, we would create a better world. One day it could be you or me who are refused a bus journey.
