I have just been watching one of the Bond retrospectives that have come out linked to the new film.
Naturally, it finished with that fabulous 007-themed royal stunt that amazed us at London 2012.
How cool were we then? How self-assured, how confident, how welcoming were we to the rest of the world as we hosted the greatest Olympics of modern times?
Nine years down the line, we’re having to bribe people to come and pluck our Christmas turkeys for us.
What happened? (I’ll give you a hint: some of us know.)
