A MAN is being treated in hospital for serious head and leg injuries after being hit by a lorry in York.

North Yorkshire Police said the collision happened at about 1.45am on Saturday on Wigginton Road - the B1363 - between the railway line and the Bumper Castle.

A spokesperson said the casualty, aged in his 40s, remained in hospital with serious injuries.

They said the lorry was travelling out of the city towards the ring road when the collision happened.

"Officers are are appealing to anyone who witnessed the incident or saw a man in dark clothing walking along Wigginton Road between the Crichton Avenue junction and Bumper Castle in the early hours of Saturday morning," they said.

"They also ask motorists to check their dashcam footage if they were travelling in the area at the time, for any footage of the man walking along the road, or the collision itself."

Anyone with information should phone 01, select option 2 and ask for Sergeant Julian Pearson or email julian.pearson@northyorkshire.police.uk

"The road was closed while emergency services tended to the casualty, to allow collision investigators to examine the scene and to recover the vehicle involved," they added. "It reopened at around 8am."
