A POPULAR bakery with a cult online following is set to launch in York.

42nd East Bakehouse serves anything from croissants filled with pastrami, pea-shoots and emmental cheese to oreo cakes, cookie doughnuts and new takes on the classic brownie.

The independent bakery will be based at York's McArthurGlen Designer Outlet.

The York store will be the brand's sixth highstreet venture - with bakeries already found in Lincoln, Leeds, Beverley, Helmsley and Scarborough.

The bakehouse was originally created by Beverley lad Lee Edwards as an Instagram brand - meaning people could place orders of his unique sweet treats online.

42nd East Bakehouse now has over 34,000 followers on social media while Lee hosts the Good Mood Club from his Beverley store.

The Good Mood Club welcomes anyone struggling with mental health to bake and talk every Tuesday.

"Where there is cookies there is hope and there is always cookies," the slogan reads.

Revealing the news on Instagram, the post reads: "You guessed right....York we’re coming.
"Official opening date to be announced soon, we can’t wait to welcome you."
