Tom Little QC for the prosecution suggested the circumstances of Sarah Everard's murder were so exceptional it could warrant a whole life sentence.

In the "unprecedented" case, Wayne Couzens abused his position as a police officer and used his warrant card to kidnap Ms Everard "by fraud" and then detain her "by force".

He said there was "significant" planning and Ms Everard was alive for hours before she was raped and murdered.

Earlier he had described how Couzens had used his police belt to strangle her.
