A REUNION is set to be held in York for former members of staff at York Carriage Works.

The event will be organised by Kevin Burn, a former employee who sets up the meeting twice a year.

This year marks 25 years since the Carriage Works closed - and the reunion will be held at The Fox in Holgate Road in York.

Mr Burn said: "The York Carriage Works was a major employer in the area during its time. When I worked there the workforce was in the region of 3000 employees.

"As ex-Carriage Works employees, we all have very fond memories of how The Fox was a part of our working lives back then and as such regard it as the best venue for the reunion."

Ordinarily, the group have two reunions per year but due to Covid restrictions this is the only one this year.

The event starts at 7.30pm on Saturday October 9 - and people as far as Manchester and Newcastle usually travel to attend the evening.

The reunions are a mixture of former blue collar and white collar workers and include different trades, areas and eras of the Carriage Works.

The former employees have their own York Carriage Works Facebook group with over 900 members who keep in touch and post old and new photos and stories.
