NORTH Yorkshire Fire and Rescue service are calling upon residents to regularly test their smoke alarms.
The fire service are urging people in York and North Yorkshire residents to test their smoke alarms on Tuesday, October 5, at 5pm, which they are calling their Push the Button Day.
Watch manager prevention, Adam Farrow, from North Yorkshire Fire and Rescue Service said: “If you’re not going to be home at 5pm on the October 5, you can still join in by testing your alarms at another time during the day., the important thing is making sure that your smoke alarms are working and pushing that test button.
“It is important to fit smoke alarms on every level of you home and to test them regularly.
“Working smoke alarms provide early warning and give you time to escape in the event of a fire occurring in your home.”
The fire service are encouraging everyone to come together to test their alarms on October 5 and post it on social media under the hashtag #PushTheButton.
