YORK Mosque and Islamic Centre is hosting a Macmillan coffee evening to raise money for cancer support.

The event will be held on Thursday, September 30, from 6pm-8pm, selling coffee, tea and cake.

All the donations raised throughout the evening will go to the charity to support people suffering from cancer, including helping them to manage their mental health and symptoms.

The Mosque’s coffee evening has been arranged with UKIM (UK Islamic Mission), which was established in 1962 to support the needs of the growing Muslim community arriving in the UK at the time.

In 2016 the organisation established its iCare National Relief Department, to support those undergoing hardships in their local communities across the country regardless of religion, colour, or background in the UK.

Other Mosques across the country that are involved with UKIM have taken part in the Macmillian coffee events, which started last Friday, September 24.

Together, the Mosques have set a collective target of raising £15,000 to boost Macmillan Cancer Support.
