YORKSHIRE Water will be installing 150 solar-powered cameras on wastewater outfalls as part of a pilot scheme to improve visibility of its network.
The initial installation phase of the Meteor cameras is underway at Yorkshire Water assets that connect to watercourses including the River Ouse in York, Oak Beck in Harrogate and Cod Beck in Thirsk.
As well as improve the sewer network, the pilot aims to enable quicker assessment of equipment and reduce carbon emissions.
Matthew Armitage, business transformation lead at Yorkshire Water, said: “River health is a significant concern for us and the wider public.
“We’re constantly looking at innovative ways to increase visibility of the sewer networks and improve our performance in this area.
“These solar-powered cameras will allow our teams to quickly assess how our assets are performing.”
The cameras will enable Yorkshire Water to quickly assess the condition of equipment and determine if an outfall requires further inspection, as well as allowing the utility company to carry out regular visual inspections.
