A QUEEN superfan, who is a resident at a care home in York, was surprised with a special gig featuring some of the band’s show-stoppers.

Janet Findlay, a resident at the Rosevale Care Home in the city, is Queen and Freddie Mercury mad - and loved to see them live when they were together. She once queued from the early hours to go see Freddy Mercury and Montserrat Caballe - and ended up being in the music video holding two lighters.

Once the staff at the home found out about Janet’s love for the band and Freddie, they knew that had to organise a Queen-themed party.

So, they organised for the frontman from a local band, Jon Stewart, to come along to the home and perform several Queen songs for Janet and the other residents.

Sarah Fearn, activities co-ordinator at the home, said: “Here at Rosevale, we believe in helping to continue there life goals.

“Although we couldn’t get Freddie himself this was the next best thing - and Janet was so excited.

“The residents and staff had a wonderful day, the sun was shinning and Jon was fantastic. Lot’s of them have asked for him to come back and sing for them again.”

As well as the show, staff decorated the garden in records and gold streamers - and they had non alcoholic cocktails and a range of delicious cakes.

Sarah went on to say: “Here at the home, we concentrate on life goals and history. We are all believers in making our residents happy and to help them to fulfil their wishes - it’s so rewarding to see them so happy.”

As well as the residents, Janet’s husband was invited to come and watch the Queen show too.

During the pandemic, staff have organised a number of parties to keep spirits high at Rosevale.
