A FORMER primary headteacher will stand trial next year accused of having indecent images of children.

Matthew Shillito, 42, was suspended from his position when he was arrested in January 2020 and currently doesn’t work in any school.

There is no suggestion that the offences involve any child from any school he has worked at.

Shillito, of Gordon Avenue, Harrogate, denied two charges of making indecent photographs of children when he appeared before the town’s magistrates.

His case was adjourned until a trial on March 4 at the same court.

He is alleged to have made 3,723 images of the least serious category and 20 of the middle category between December 2012 and December 2015.

The offence of making an indecent photograph can be committed when illegal images are downloaded from the internet.

The 42-year-old was released on bail on condition he has no unsupervised contact with a child under 18 years old except incidental contact in everyday life and not to live at any address where a child under 18 years old lives.
