A NORTH Yorkshire MP has becomes the first in history in his area to reach the top table in politics.

Selby MP, Nigel Adams, has been promoted to a cabinet position in last week’s reshuffle.

The former Selby High School pupil attended his first cabinet meeting last Friday in his new role as Minister without Portfolio at the Cabinet Office.

Mr Adams will be working closely with the Prime Minister and all Secretaries of State to ensure that the Governments priorities are delivered upon.

Speaking on the reshuffle, Mr Adams said: "I am thrilled to have been asked to take on this new role by the Prime Minister right at the heart of Government.

"I can’t wait to get stuck in delivering on our priorities such as levelling up the country, which is so important for Selby District."

Her Majesty the Queen has also approved Nigel as a member of the Privy Council and he will be styled as The Right Honourable.

Nigel was formerly Minister of State at the Foreign Office. He has previously held other ministerial roles at Department for Culture, Media & Sport, Health, Housing & Communities, the Wales Office and as Lord Commissioner to HM Treasury in the Whips Office.
