FIVE school girls from York have raised an "incredible" £450 for Macmillan Cancer Support by hosting their own coffee morning for the charity.

Sophie, Ivy, Molly, Lacie and Lucy, all 10 years old, attend Robert Wilkinson Primary Academy in Strensall. They hosted their coffee morning on Friday September 17 to capture hungry students on their way home from school.

The girls worked as a team to bake and serve a range of delicious sweets treats, milkshakes and hot drinks, as well as organising a tombola with prizes.

One of the girls, Sophie, said she wanted to organise a Macmillan Coffee Morning as her friend Isabel, who was almost six-years-old, sadly passed away from cancer.

"We had lots of fun making the cakes and selling them after school, we can't believe how generous everyone was", Sophie added.

Laura Holohan, Macmillan’s fundraising manager, said that the whole team want to give their thanks to the young girls and congratulate them for raising an "incredible" amount for the charity.

"It’s never been more important to host a coffee morning and raise vital funds to ensure Macmillan can continue to deliver the services that people living with cancer desperately need", Laura said.
