A NEW cake shop is opening in East Lancashire next month after the owner’s bakes proved to be a sell-out success at a local market.

Mia Jade Bakes will be opening in Accrington and it will have a retro/vintage theme which is heavily inspired by the movie and musical, Grease.

21-year-old Mia Beardsworth, who has only just finished university, started her business less than six months ago.

She said: “I have a psychology degree and haven’t even used it! But I think the business is going really well at the minute so I’m going to see where it goes.”

Mia added that the response to her bakes, which she currently sells at a Accrington market stall, has been overwhelmingly positive.

She said: “The response has been really good. In the first two weeks I sold out in an hour and since then I sell out before half 11.

“I make as much as I can but it’s only me.”

The Accrington woman said she has amassed “a lot of regular customers” through the market and purchased the shop so she can expand her business and make more treats.

She explained: “Because I am baking from home I couldn’t do it all and could only take on so many orders.

“I live with my family and it’s only a small kitchen.”

Mia makes a variety of quirky bakes which she describes as “very bright and pretty”.

She added: “I think they must be nice as the customers keep coming back.”

Some of the bakes currently on the menu are Nutella roll ups, Malteser and Biscoff cookie pie, and impressive celebration cakes.

However, the creative baker said she comes up with new flavour ideas every week so you will need to check back on the business Facebook page to learn more.

Mia is hoping to open at the start of October with a prospective grand opening date of October 2nd.

She is currently aiming to open Wednesday-Friday and will still be based at Accrington market on Saturdays.

The shop is based at 199 Blackburn Road in Accrington.
