TWELVE riders from across the UK will be lining up for a charity race on Friday - after a 15 month delay.

The top riders will be taking part in the Ernest Cooper Macmillan ‘Ride of Their Lives’ race at York Racecourse – part of a new race meeting at York for this year.

The twelve amateur riders were selected for the race back in December 2019 and were originally due to ride in June 2020.

The charity challenge sees members of the public completing months of intense jockey training before racing thoroughbred horses on York’s iconic course.

All of the riders pledged to raise a minimum of £4,000 for Macmillan Cancer Support, so far, they have collectively raised over £120,000.

A spokesperson for Macmillan said the funding will help the charity to provide vital support to people living with cancer across the region.

The race will coincide with the Macmillan’s flagship fundraising Coffee Morning event, which sees people come together to raise funds for people living with cancer.

Racing fans can support the riders on Friday (September 24) by donating on their JustGiving pages and by attending the race.
