A NEW takeaway - serving African, Caribbean and Asian style grilled food - hopes to "regenerate" an area of Clifton.

Plans have been submitted for Tulsi, a "new, exciting and vibrant food business" with al fresco dining, on Burton Stone Lane.

The corner property was previously used by Hong Kong House, a takeaway on the street since 1975.

Tulsi labels its offering as 'Grilled, Gelato, Go' - a place that offers grilled food and gelato in a takeaway-focused format.

From internationally-inspired blends of spices to grilled chicken, burritos to Quesadillas, Tulsi's solicitors urged City of York Council to avoid seeing it "as another takeaway".

Kabir Family Law, who wrote the application, said: "The applicant wants to see these uses continue and return this building to its former prominence within the community, creating a new landmark within the parade of shopfronts. Underpinning a new era of regeneration."

The takeaway has asked for permission to execute small scale demolition, extension works and a refurb.

Changes include bi-fold doors that wrap around the property, expanding the staff W/C and an outdoor dining area.

The planning application reads: "The application proposal is for some small scale demolition and extension works and refurbishment work to create a new and exciting addition to the street scene and commercial offering along this neighbourhood parade of shops.

"Not content with being seen as another takeaway, the applicant wishes to provide a destination, that will match others aspirations for the regeneration and new development of the locality."
