A MAN had to be rescued from a bridge in York.

North Yorkshire Fire And Rescue say say they were called out at 4.19am this morning (September 21) to Ouse Bridge in the city centre following a request from police to assist in bringing a man from the wrong side of the bridge parapet back to safety.

A spokesman for the service said: "Fire crews were mobilised and the York fire boat joined the York volunteer rescue boat in the river near the bridge, while firefighters used a working from height harness to bring the man back to safety where he was left in care of paramedics."
