So, Cllr D’Agorne is at it again with the intended one way system on Navigation Road (£3.3 million boost for York cyclists and pedestrians - ten schemes outlined, September 17).

Does he not realise this will cause more traffic waiting to turn left into Foss Islands Road, which will cause even more air pollution for the surrounding area - also causing more disruption for people pulling out of Hope Street?

If the council have money to spend surely it would be better spent repairing the roads.

Of course there is a very obvious reason for this latest scheme and that is to take people’s thoughts away from the despicable way disabled people are being treated.

Surely Cllr D’Agorne could be found a job where he doesn’t upset and disrupt people’s lives - preferably in Timbuktu.

Re-open Groves during Bootham Bar work

Can the York councillor in charge of traffic and transport come to his senses and re-open The Groves and Stonebow - also Coppergate - after the grid lock suffered on Sunday by work starting on the Bootham Bar junction, even if he is pigheaded enough to close them again after the work is finished?

Also, the millions of pounds going to be spent on further cycle lanes should be spent on potholes first.

Why does this council never listen to us?

Will the council ever listen to the residents and their wishes rather than plough on with their collective personal views on what is ‘best’ for us?

Firstly, a new person is appointed to be head of Make It York (The Press, September 15) - an organisation that has had to have massive sums injected by the council. I presume the person will be on a six figure salary, all paid for by council taxpayers in order to bring more tourists to York.

Yet most residents, when asked, would say that we already have too many tourists. For those who say they bring in money and jobs - well, let the hotels and bars pay for Make it York, not us!

Secondly, how dare the council blatantly ignore the wishes and needs of disabled drivers in York city centre? Again the council’s personal ideas dictate the situation and not the opinion of residents.

So many readers’ letters in The Press criticise the council yet it all falls on deaf ears. This isn’t democracy.
