EDUCATION secretary Gavin Williamson is pushing for a nationwide ban on mobile phones in schools.
It’s about time. I can’t understand why headteachers allow them - some have imposed their own bans and have witnessed dramatic improvements in school as a result.
One headteacher who banned mobiles at her Swindon secondary school, revealed how it transformed her school and rescued kids who were glued to their phones throughout the day.
Mobile phones have no place in schools. Children managed fine before the advent of mobiles and will manage again. Even the presence of a phone in a bag is a distraction.
They should be left at home, or handed in at the start of the school day and collected at home time.
