THESE amazing pictures show big-hearted teenager Robert Clark having his locks shaved off - in memory of his grandad.

Robert Clark, 16, had his long hair completely cut off and his head shaved in a charity effort to raise funds and awareness of two charities close to his heart.

Money raised from the extreme hair cut will be split between Dementia UK and Marie Curie. He has already raised more than £400 of his £600 target.

Last December, Robert's grandad Alan Tinsley died aged 82 from Covid-19 - but had also suffered from vascular dementia for a number of years and lived in a care home.

Alan had been a master stonemason and worked on many of Yorkshire's finest buildings.

Robert, from Alne and who attends Easingwold Secondary School, said: "I've had my head shaved primarily because I have lost two family members to dementia and cancer but also because of my outlook on life.

"I see success as leaving the world in a better state than you found it."

He said losing his hair was a small price to pay to help raise money for "these two amazing charities".

He added: "Being bald feels cold. I have a cold head now but it doesn't seem to be making much difference in everyday life except I don't have to tie up my hair now so it isn't in my eyes!"

Robert had his hair cut at school. Mum Jess said: "The whole year 12 at Easingwold school watched and some participated as his head and beard were shaved but he kept the moustache as he thought it looked quite cool! He also had areas of his legs waxed!"

Besides supporting Dementia UK and Marie Curie, Robert is sending some plaited hair to the Little Princess Trust which provides free real hair wigs to children and young people who have lost their own hair through cancer treatment or other conditions.

Jess added: "I am so proud of him as its very brave."
