A LANDMARK development which has created 127 apartments and offices in the heart of York is now complete.

The first residents have moved into Hudson Quarter, opposite York Railway Station, marking the culmination of the three-year venture which cost an estimated £35m.

Planning permission was granted in 2017 for the site, which has now been fully redeveloped by Palace Capital, creating 127 apartments and 39,000 sq ft of Grade A office space, around a courtyard and landscaped grounds.

Around 40 apartments have been sold pre-completion and nine are under offer. Apartments are still available, ranging from £240,000 to £1.2 million, with many offering views over York.

Legal firm Knights has taken part of the office space at record rental levels for York.

The site previously housed a former British Rail office building; before that, it formed part of the original station which opened in 1839. There are now three residential buildings, named Waverley, Victoria and Kings as a nod to the site's railway heritage, and one office building.

Neil Sinclair, CEO of Palace Capital, said: “It’s a testament to everyone involved that we have completed Hudson Quarter to such a high standard.

"Seeing the finished development vindicates our confidence in the great city of York, and other major regional cities, over recent years. Hudson Quarter will be a brilliant addition to York and will be a vibrant new place to live and work in the heart of the city and we are proud to have delivered it.”

Adrian Dobson, of contractor Caddick Construction, said: “This has been a very high profile project in the heart of York. The benefits it brings to this thriving area are huge, not just in terms of additional housing and commercial opportunities but for a more sustainable way of living and working. That’s thanks to its excellent public transport links and located within shouting distance of York Railway Station where you can hop on a train and be in London in less than two hours.”

The exterior and interior of the buildings have been modelled by award-winning designers Fuse.

Internal features in the premium apartments include instant hot water, quartz stonework surfaces, high-tech shower controls, filtered water taps, wine coolers and pop up extractors.
