CONSTRUCTION work has uncovered an Art Deco style floor, linked to the former Rialto cinema and ballroom in York.
In April, the site of the former Mecca bingo hall in Fishergate was sold to developers with the company adding it was "very sad" to confirm permanent closure.
York resident Simon Chung shared the photos on social media after noticing workers had been "digging up lots of holes in their car park".
The cinema's beautiful floor has been revealed to the world for the first time since 2003 - the year it was demolished to make way for the Mecca car park.
The Rialto cinema and ballroom once housed major bands, including The Beatles who performed there three times in the early 1960s.
A replacement for an earlier Rialto Cinema destroyed by fire, the Rialto Cinema opened in the November of 1935 with 'Gold Diggers of 1935'.
It had 1,800 seats and was even equipped with a Compton 3Manual 5 Ranks organ, opened by Hal Sherwin, the resident organist who ran Hal Sherwin's Seven Symphonics.
The last film was reportedly shown on October 15, 1961, with William Holden in 'The World of Suzi Wong'.
