WHITBY has built a large part of its tourism industry on its connection to Bram Stoker's celebrated novel Dracula.
The book was published in 1897 and 80 years later the BBC made a film following a group of ardent fans on a pilgrimage to Whitby, a key setting for the story.
In the 1977 BBC film, titled Whitby’s Dracula connection, we follow a coach ferrying members of the British Dracula Society to Whitby.
They had previously been to Transylvania, where the novel is also set.
The BBC is sharing its archive with Press readers. If you like old photos and stories of York be sure to join our Facebook group Why We Love York - Memories, click here to join today.
The short film about Dracula fans originally appeared on the BBC programmer Nationwide and was first broadcast on 19 May, 1977.
