Your article in Tuesday's Press (Transport in city to be transformed by 2030, The Press, May 11) would suggest the council are about to start some long term planning and visualising much less traffic in the city by 2030.
And yet they are still proposing, though have not yet confirmed, a multi-storey car park in St George’s Field.
What is wrong with the council? Is there no consistency in their thinking?
With a revamp of the front of the station, removal of the York Castle car park and the plans for York Central, we need to do everything possible to minimise cars coming into the city. But this must be accompanied by a public transport strategy to persuade car users of the benefit of leaving their cars at home.
No way will we be carbon neutral by 2030. And as for stopping non-essential traffic inside the city walls by 2023 - no chance, with the way the council currently makes decisions.
Well, they are going to organise workshops and consultations, so everything will be ok!
