PLANS for eight new homes to be created at the site of a former charity headquarters have been submitted.

Under the scheme, Wilberforce House in North Moor Road would be demolished to make room for eight houses.

The application, submitted by Queens Staith Leisure Ltd, says the building currently on site is the former headquarters of a York charity.

The plans would see the five two-bedroom homes and three three-bedroom homes built on the land, with 12 car parking spaces.

The planning application says: "The site lies within the village of Huntington and currently has the former offices of a York charity.

"The character of the surrounding area is a mixture of small industrial, shops, offices & residential dwellings.

"We believe that redevelopment of this site will enhance the area and will bring a positive contribution to the local environment."

The development would also have eight cycle parking spaces.

The planning statement adds: "Neighbour amenity would be protected and the proposal would provide sufficient off street parking.

"Huntington provides users with a choice of travel modes, through the provision of good access by these more sustainable modes and therefore in keeping with local and national transport strategies."

The houses would be accessed from the same point off North Moor Road, according to the developers.
