PLANS for 96 apartments to be built on part of the former Heworth gas works have been submitted.

The proposals, for Zone C of the nine-acre development, include three buildings and a neighbourhood park.

Planning permission for 607 homes to be built on the former gas works was granted in March 2020. The site has now been split into zones, with detailed planning applications submitted for each.

Under the plans for Zone C there would be 61 car parking bays and 122 cycle parking spaces for the 96 flats.

One of the blocks will have a concierge service, including a parcel delivery storage room.

The proposals will see studio, one bedroom, two bedroom and three bedroom apartments built. There will be solar panels on the roof and flats will have private balconies or terraces.

This application also includes the central neighbourhood park planned for the development - which includes benches, a toddler play area, a 'blossom walk' lined by trees and outdoor equipment including monkey bars and a balance beam.

The scheme is being developed by Heworth Green Developments, Moda Living and North Star.

A spokesperson for North Star said: “Since we received outline planning permission we have made great progress with remediation work on the site and the submission of the details of the new buildings is a major landmark for this fantastic project. We are very excited to deliver our vision for a new community and high quality new homes through the landscape-led masterplan.”

The scheme has been controversial and was given outline planning approval by just one vote in March 2020. Seven voted for and seven against – with the chair casting the deciding vote for the plans.
