POCKLINGTON youth charity (YPC) has elected six new trustees as it prepares to open its first dedicated building for young people.

YPC held its seventh AGM at the end of last month where the six were voted in to officially form a management committee alongside existing chair Claire Reading, co-founder and vice-chair Les Slow, and Dawn Stone, YPC’s Secretary. They are local residents Richard Knill, Adam Lea, Jon Pack, Helen Stephenson, Jo Summers and Gerry Wareham.

YPC is eagerly awaiting the opportunity to open its new facility on Railway Street in Pocklington, providing the first long-term investment in youth services in the area since 2013. The YPC building will be a place where young people aged 11-18 can “chat, chill and create” from 4pm-8pm initially on weekdays, with regular activities planned and a café bar available for refreshments. There is the potential to extend opening hours, which will be subject to enough volunteers staffing the building.

YPC Chair Claire Reading said: “Our new trustees bring a superb range of skills and experience to our charity and they have all become involved in different aspects of our new facility at Railway Street, from creative design to advising on our café bar.”

Meanwhile, the first sessions of outdoor activities organised by YPC’s volunteers have been a big hit. Some 25 young people joined in rounders for the second weekly Wednesday session at West Green, almost double the number from the week before. The session starts at 6pm and details can be found online at www.ypcount.org.uk/events or at YPC at 17 Railway Street. People can follow the charity on Facebook, Twitter and Instagram.

YPC is relying on volunteers to help run its activities.
