YORK City Football Club has a new commercial manager.

Liam McGuinness is responsible for maximising opportunities around the LNER Community Stadium and at the club, including ticketing, sales, hospitality, events and advertising.

He previously worked with Newcastle Racecourse as head of racing sales after about 10 years at Championship side Middlesbrough FC in sales, sponsorship and event management.

Liam said: "I’m thrilled and over the moon to be back in football and to be given this opportunity.

"Pretty much my whole career has been in sport, specifically football with
Middlesbrough FC. I’ve seen it all – promotion, Premier League, relegation, play-off final heartache.

"You get emotions in sport that you don’t get anywhere else and that’s what I’ve missed since being out of sport due to the pandemic.

“I’m really looking forward to developing the existing relationship with as many of our loyal supporters and partners as possible as well as putting plans in place ASAP that will showcase the new commercial opportunities at the new LNER Community Stadium to potential supportive

“For me, this opportunity is massive and to be part of the next journey of such a long history is an honour. I can’t wait to get started and do my bit to promote success within the football club and the community as together, we look to regain full membership of the EFL.”

Dave Penney, sporting director, added: “Liam has a hunger and a drive to develop the commercial department of York City Football Club and we are delighted he has agreed to join us.

“Liam has the knowledge and know-how of working in a professional football club environment and with the LNER Community Stadium now finished there will be plenty of opportunities to explore.”
