SO once again our council when faced with having to make a decision opt to do nothing. Bootham junction is difficult for pedestrians with the footpaths being very narrow especially on Gillygate.

Traffic is also relatively heavy at this point and the corners are "blind' with buses and other HGV vehicles travelling very close to pedestrians waiting to cross.

I completed the council's "consultation" online and suggested that the whole junction should be "boxed" and that the lights be programmed so that all directions turn to stop at the same time allowing pedestrians to cross in any direction.

Many cities around the world allow this and since this junction is quite narrow, it would work. Pedestrians would be able to cross much more easily, especially those with pushchairs etc and traffic would flow as it does now if not better.

Unfortunately this is my idea and not that of the council officers who seem to think that consultations are simply to show some form of "due process" has been followed.
