A supermarket chain is planning to open a new store in central York with the creation of 40 jobs.
Iceland is moving into the former Homesense store in Foss Islands Road retail park which shut in March last year after a decade.
The national chain said it expects the new opening to create 10 full-time and 30 part-time positions.
The company has lodged a planning application with City of York Council to make minor alterations to the shop front, including new entrance doors, with no mention of major building or landscaping works.
If approved, the new store will be vying for customers alongside nearby Morrisons and Waitrose.
The Foss Islands shopping area is already home to budget retailers B&M and Home Bargains.
Iceland recently launched the UK’s first supermarket home delivery app, enabling customers to shop on-the-go while collecting Bonus points.
Rather than having to swipe their loyalty care at the till, shoppers will just need to scan their app at the checkout to claim points.
