A YOUTUBER from Thailand who left her Government job to travel the world solo has visited York for the next episode of her popular series.

Syifa Adriana showcased our medieval and historic city to over 200,000 people across the globe, comparing the city's love of sitting outside at the pub to the street food quarters of Asia.

Syifa, who is originally from Indonesia, first began solo travelling in 2013 while she documented her travels and different cultures online.

After five months in Asia, Syifa moved to China in January 2017 for an English teaching job. In 2018 she decided to become a full time YouTube creator and traveller in a bid to capture the essence of each place she visits.

She recounted the history of the Shambles' meat market origins, showed off some of the city's museums and even enjoyed her first British pint.

Sitting outside The Kings Arms on the April 12 milestone, she said: "It's quite interesting to be in the crowds like this because I think due to the lockdown that has happened for months and months, people has been so restricted and today, being the first day that people are allowed to even eat out and drink outside the pub it's packed with people.

"I'm not used to staying like this as in hanging out and enjoying the time and sun and I'm sort of very new to this idea of hanging out. I think sometimes it's nice to have a bit of different experience in your travels, to have and get a sense of little appreciations to different things.

"In the Asian region we are so used to hanging out outside by eating street food whereas in England, the UK or Europe, there are barely any street food.

"This is how people actually hang out by the pubs drinking and then especially when it's warmer like this it's quite lovely to spend time with your friends and what not.

"These kinds of experiences give you a little bit of appreciation to different culture and doesn't mean that one is better than the other."

Syifa was also overjoyed to find bubble tea in the city centre, stopping by the Goodramgate.

"I am so excited, this is something I've been dreaming of!," Syifa laughed.

"It's one of those things that you crave for, I don't forget my Asian roots."

The video was watched by more than 12,000 people across the globe with one viewer in Phuket saying she was "lucky" to not have to wear a mask while walking down the street.

"The architecture of England is incredible. Walking on the road itself creat[e] a special feeling," another said.
